Justin Lin (林诣彬; pinyin: Lín Yìbīn) is Taiwanese-American the director. He is the director of The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Fast & Furious, Fast Five and Fast & Furious 6 in The Fast and the Furious franchise.

Biography

Lin's third outing as a director, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift was released in North American June of 2006. Universal Pictures credit's Lin's Tokyo Drift and The Break Up for keeping the studio out of financial straits during that year. In 2009, Lin returned as director for the fourth The Fast and the Furious film, Fast & Furious. The film, acting as a direct sequel to the original film, debuted April 3, 2009 and grossed grossed $30.5 million on its opening day. Fast & Furious Maintained a top spot at the weekend box office with $70,950,500.

In 2011, Lin also directed Fast Five, released 2011. Fast Five surpassed Fast & Furious record for the highest-grossing opening weekend ever in April with an estimated $83.6 million and of any car-oriented film. In 2012, he began production on Fast & Furious 6 (officially titled Furious 6, following the naming convention of Fast Five).

Universal Pictures intended on producing both Fast & Furious 6 and Furious 7 back-to-back. However, Lin believed the scheduled would lessen the quality of both films. Following the completion of Fast & Furious 6 and its debute in May of 2013, Lin announced he would not return as director for the seventh film. In December of 2014, it was announced he would direct the sequel to Paramount Pictures's Star Trek: Into Darkness.
